Keeping Current
I have been a member of the Academy of General Dentistry for over 20 years. The main focus of the Academy has always been to promote quality continuing education for dental professionals.
In my practicing career, dentistry has changed such that little of what I do daily was taught in dental school. In order to keep up with clinical and technical advances, dentists must spend adequate time and effort to continue their education. In 1994, I became a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD).
This was a milestone achievement, which involved the successful completion of 500 hours of education and a comprehensive examination. When I began the process, I merely desired to keep current as a dentist. Attaining a Fellowship later became a goal whereby I could show my children the value of making a lifelong commitment to education.
The AGD is very involved in informing the general public through two excellent websites. I consider these sites to be indispensable sources of information for anyone who has teeth. Check out http://www.agd.org and http://www.knowyourteeth.com to learn more.
